Pest Control at Cuscowilla on Lake Oconee

Cuscowilla sits on about seven hundred acres on the Eatonton side of Lake Oconee, in Putnam County, built around the Coore and Crenshaw course. It is a smaller and quieter community than the large resort developments across the water, with cottage-style homes, lakefront lots and a course laid out through sandy native areas and pines rather than over manicured ground.

It is also about as close to our office as a job gets. We are on Lake Oconee Parkway in Eatonton, in the same county, which is why Cuscowilla is routine work for us rather than a drive.

The Native Areas Cut Both Ways

The sandy waste areas, pine straw and unmanicured margins that give the Coore and Crenshaw layout its character are lower-input ground than wall-to-wall turf, and that is genuinely good. It does mean the pest picture is a natural one rather than a suburban one.

  • Fire ants take open sandy ground readily, and mounds move onto adjoining lawn from the margins rather than staying on the course side.
  • Pine straw beds and mulch held against a foundation stay damp and become harborage for silverfish, earwigs, centipedes and millipedes and a route to the sill plate.
  • Wooded margins and transition edges hold ticks, and the lower-mown areas mean more of that edge than a conventional course would produce.
  • Yellowjackets nest in banks, old stumps and undisturbed ground, which is worth knowing before anyone runs a trimmer along a fence line in late summer.

Cottages, Lakefront and Docks

Cottage-style homes sit closer together than estate lots, which changes things in a specific way: a problem in one structure is nearer to the next, and roof and eave lines are within easy reach of mature plantings. Carpenter bees work fascia and rails, paper wasps build under porch ceilings, and smokybrown roaches come in at the roofline from leaf-packed gutters and tree limbs touching the eave.

On the lakefront side, docks and boathouses collect spiders, midges and wasps in the same way they do everywhere on Oconee, and they are where people reach blind into a beam or a dock box. Lake house pest control covers the dock and boathouse rather than stopping at the shoreline. Shoreline improvements and dock permitting on Lake Oconee are governed by Georgia Power; the structures themselves are ours to look after.

Homes That Are Not Lived In Year-Round

A good many Cuscowilla homes are weekend or seasonal. Empty structures lose their plumbing trap seals to evaporation, opening a direct route from the sewer line for large roaches, and there is nobody present to notice a wasp nest under an eave, a mouse in the garage in October, a slow leak feeding carpenter ants, or spring termite swarmers on a windowsill.

That is the case for scheduled service rather than calling when something is visible. On a house you live in, you are the early warning system. On a house you visit, the scheduled visit is.

Mosquitoes and the Water

Mosquitoes hold in shaded plantings, pine litter and cove margins and work a porch from dusk, which on a lake property is exactly the hours you wanted. We treat resting vegetation and reduce sources rather than fogging open lawn, and install Thermacell Pro where you want a fixed system on a porch or dock. Given how close the lots sit to open water, nature-friendly options are worth discussing and we will raise them.

Recurring general pest control runs under the Priority Pest Management Plan. Alongside it we handle termite protection with Sentricon, mosquito control and Thermacell Pro systems, hornet and wasp extermination, carpenter bee extermination, a deer repellent program, and nature-friendly options where they suit a shoreline property.

Common areas and amenity grounds need a different plan than a single cottage lot. See our fire ant control for HOA and amenity grounds, or fire ant control for your yard.

Why We Are a Sensible Call Here

Our office is at 1023 Lake Oconee Parkway in Eatonton, on the Lake Oconee corridor. Cuscowilla is not an outlying part of our territory that somebody has to be talked into driving to — it is the corridor the company is built around, and lake property is the property type we know best.

Same county, same lake, a few minutes up the road — and lake and second-home property is the work this company was built around.

We are licensed by the Georgia Department of Agriculture, family-owned and operated since 2014, and an authorized Sentricon and Thermacell Pro installer, so termite and outdoor mosquito work is handled directly rather than subcontracted. Service is available within 24 hours, and if pests return between scheduled visits, so do we, at no extra charge.
