Pest Control at Great Waters, Lake Oconee
Great Waters is the gated enclave on the Eatonton side of Reynolds Lake Oconee, built around the Jack Nicklaus course whose back nine runs along the water. It is the most water-dominated part of Reynolds, and from a pest control standpoint that single fact drives almost everything.
It is also close to home for us. Our office is in Eatonton, a few minutes down the road, which is not a small thing when the problem is a wasp nest over a dock walkway in August.
Deep Water, Docks and Boathouses
Deep-water frontage and private docks are the reason people buy here, and they are also a structure type most pest control never properly addresses. Dock framing, boathouse rafters, boat lifts and covered slips sit in permanent humidity a few feet above open water. That combination produces:
- Heavy spider populations, including black widows in the sheltered underside of decking, in dock boxes and around lift machinery — all places people reach into without looking.
- Carpenter bees drilling into fascia, rafter tails and dock rails. Untreated, the same galleries get reused and enlarged season after season.
- Paper wasp and mud dauber nests under dock roofs, in boathouse eaves and inside stored equipment.
- Midges and mosquitoes off the water and out of the shaded coves, which is what actually determines whether a dock is usable at dusk.
We treat the dock and boathouse as part of the property rather than stopping at the shoreline, which is the substance of lake house pest control. Georgia Power governs shoreline improvements and dock permitting here — that is between you and them — but the structure once it exists is ours to look after.
Living Beside the Back Nine
Course-side lots at Great Waters carry a particular set of conditions. Irrigated turf and managed roughs are prime fire ant ground, and mounds move onto adjoining lawn steadily rather than staying put. Water hazards and low wet areas hold mosquito production. And the rough-to-woods transition edge, which is what gives the course its look, is precisely the strip where ticks concentrate.
None of that is a complaint about the course. It just means a Great Waters lot needs the perimeter and the transition edge treated deliberately, not a standard suburban lawn program.
Mosquitoes Are the Deciding Factor
More than anything else on this page, mosquitoes determine whether an outdoor space here gets used. A shaded lakefront lot with coves nearby and dense plantings will hold them from dusk regardless of how open the lawn is, because they rest in the vegetation rather than breeding in the lawn.
We run mosquito control as barrier treatment on resting vegetation plus source reduction, and install Thermacell Pro as a fixed system for porches, decks and dock areas where you want reliable coverage rather than seasonal spraying. On shoreline property we will also walk through nature-friendly options, because proximity to open water is a real reason to be deliberate about products.
Homes That Sit Empty
A good many Great Waters homes are second homes. Empty structures lose their plumbing trap seals to evaporation, which opens a route in for large roaches from the sewer line, and nobody is present to notice a wasp nest building, a slow leak feeding carpenter ants, or spring swarmers on a sill. Scheduled service is the only thing inspecting the property between visits.
Recurring general pest control runs under the Priority Pest Management Plan. Alongside it we handle termite protection with Sentricon, mosquito control and Thermacell Pro systems, hornet and wasp extermination, carpenter bee extermination, a deer repellent program, and nature-friendly options where they suit a shoreline property.
Mounds creeping in from the course edge? Start with fire ant control for your yard. Associations managing common areas can look at our per-acre fire ant control for amenity grounds.
Why We Are a Sensible Call Here
Our office is at 1023 Lake Oconee Parkway in Eatonton, on the Lake Oconee corridor. Great Waters is not an outlying part of our territory that somebody has to be talked into driving to — it is the corridor the company is built around, and lake property is the property type we know best.
Because we are based in Eatonton rather than Atlanta, a dock inspection or a nest removal here does not require scheduling around a two-hour round trip.
We are licensed by the Georgia Department of Agriculture, family-owned and operated since 2014, and an authorized Sentricon and Thermacell Pro installer, so termite and outdoor mosquito work is handled directly rather than subcontracted. Service is available within 24 hours, and if pests return between scheduled visits, so do we, at no extra charge.
